It does happen successfully sometimes, I've known some myself. Here's the thing. Does he have a job of any kind? Not that everyone in Bali can actually get a job but hey it's a start. Buying him meals and drinks etc isn't much of a guide because many young Balinese don't have much money but if he took or asked for bigger gifts (motorbikes seem to be a bit of a give away) that may be a hint that she's got herself a cowboy. Otherwise you may have to trust her judgement and wait and see if it was just a holiday romance or something more!!

She may like to read the book "Fragrant Rice" by Janet de Neefe. Now there is a success story if you like but it also brings up a lot of cultural diferences etc. which your daughter may or may not be aware of.
