There is a dense concentration of DVD shops on the first stretch of Poppies 2 just as you turn off Jl Legian. There are Sakura, StarDisc, SoftComp, plus a heap of others. The range between the lot of them is simply awesome! Unfortunately we just came back and found that we bought a lot of duds mostly from the same shop. (Across the road and to the right of the GVC). However he did have the cheapest DVD folders than anywhere else we asked. We ended up bringing back 9. No worries through customs. But an alarming number of them are quite badly scratched, some only have half the movie on the disc, most freeze at some point, some are blank, some are unreadable. I guess that its the old adage "If you want to ensure quality, you have to check the lastest copies". It can add considerable time to your DVD shop (we tend to buy a few!) but at least you don't get the disappointment of a movie that looks fantastic but you can't watch because nothing will play it. It does only cost $1.20, but its just the anticipation of watching a great new release movie miles ahead of its release here, that makes it a treat to be able to watch it. Enjoy !
P.S. A good cheap eatery (warung) is near there down a lane that goes off to the right opposite the Barong Hotel. It's called Warung 96 and is cheap and heaps of good food. It's a regular haunt for many. If surfies eat there, you know the food is good and cheap! (please take no offence, surfing fraternity!) Some of the yummiest Indonesian food I have had is from there! It always tastes good when the food only costs $3-4
