We haven't actually purchased yet. We are looking at getting a 4 day package to Bumi Ayu Hotel, Sanur. We already have 2 weeks timeshare at Tanjung Benoa, organized for next March. To purchase just airfares is expensive, haven't saved enough flybuys to get the tickets for free(?) so cheapest way of doing it is to buy a package, we don't think we can get more than the 2 weeks off work, hence the 4 days will be up for grabs, so to speak. I'm still hoping that we can swing the 4 days as I'd like to try out the Bumi Ayu.
If you read through the archives quite a few people do this and organize their own accommadation in Bali. You can start or finish at your package and stay somewhere else in between. Booking and paying over the net is so easy these days and there are quite a few reasonable, secure and safe sites to go through. A lot of places also offer hotels that the packages don't.
