would know anything at all about ballroom dancing. But they are very good at copying clothes and shoes.

What does your son require, macho outfits for Latin, or the more formal stuff for ballroom? If you have anything which you would like copying, I have been very satisfied with Janoko in Poppies 2, but judging from some of the comments on the Forum, they don't necessarily please everyone.

If your son wants dinner or tail suits with extra room for easy arm movements, then goodness knows how he'd get on.

If you would like to see some really great theatrical type materials, then it would be worth a trip to the Muslim Street in Denpasar. Any driver can take you there. Don't go until you've been in Bali for a few days and got the hang of the bargaining. It's a whole street full of material shops. Don't let your driver, or more importantly anyone else be your "guide". Just take your time, see what's on offer and be prepared to bargain.

I've had ballroom dancing shoes made at Dolphin Leather in Jl Sahadewa [near Jl Melasti]. They're not quite as light and as flexible as the Australian or English made ones, but for about AU$30 a pair, they're a bargain. The soles don't look like suede, but they brush up OK. Best to take a sample for them to copy. They may assume that your son's feet are swollen with the Balinese climate and make the shoes a bit too tight. Judge this for yourself and make sure that they are a good fit. One advantage is that you don't have to stick to black, if you would prefer something different.

If you happen to live in the Perth/Fremantle/Rockingham/Mandurah area and you would like to talk with me, email me first [remove no spam].
