I have taken some newies on a day trip from Kuta to Nusa Dua, leave about 11 or 12, have a look at the beautifully laid out gardens and resorts around Nusa Dua, have lunch at Geger beach in the small warung, drive around to Uluwatu and look at the temple and take care with the naughty monkeys (take off your glasses, ear rings, necklaces, protect your camera) then have a look from the cliff top at Dreamland beach then on to GWK cultural park. If you want more you can stop at Jimbaran bay for dinner and watch the sunset. The round trip is probably not much more than 40km (guestimate).
Another variation en route to Uluwatu is to stop in at the local Jimbaran bay fish market. Lots of boats, fisherman, fresh fish and some fruits, spices and market items.
