There are two ways you can deal with the helmet situation.
You can either take your own from home like kev did but they do get very hot cos of the weather over there, and then maybe you can donate it to a local that you have made good friends with, as a gift. That guarentees you will be remembered the next time you goto Bali.
Or you can buy one over there. The one that I got resembles a ww2 german military helmet that is covered in leather and also comes with a really cool looking pair of old flying goggles. These are for sale everywhere but they ussually ask about Rp 250,000 for them but you should be able to get them for about Rp 60,000 if you haggle hard enuff.
They come in really cool looking black or other various obnoxious mix of various colours.
I intend on using my german helmet back here at home even tho they dont meet the adr standards. When the cops pull me over for the helmet and tell me I cant wear it cos it isnt to standard, I will take it off and not use anything as I qualify for a helmet exemption due to a neck injury I got in a car accident.
Either way they will be an attention getter back here.
Seeing as you are a bike rider , you should be ok I reckon.
just ride with commonsense and do whet the locals do and all will be sweet.
Now you have committed yourself to a jbr , I reckon it will be a good read.
Cheers PD
