Cliff, Yes, I am an American - not always happy about the Govt though. I'm sure it took many months of planning to send troops to Iraq and Afganistan. There was only a few days warning about Katrina. People were told to leave, granted - many poor and homeless are not going to leave, but the ones that could and didn't, I have no sympathy for. These people knew the dangers when they moved there. I live in Southern California and I know the dangers of earthquakes - plus we live in a town where there is a large oil refinery - we are prepared to leave at a moments notice if the refinery blows up - or if an earthquake happens, we can make do for at least several weeks.
I don't expect seeing money from third world countries coming into the US... but England, France, Canada, and ok Australia.... maybe not money, but offers to send in help - rebuilding, search and rescue, ships for housing....whatever.....
I agree companies are going to get rich off this - (not proud to be
an American on that) - and you are probably right on the oil flowing before water - even in Calif. gas stations are more than busy right now. We don't even get our oil from the gulf port - most of it from Alaska!
What makes me furious the most is the looters - I can understand if they take water and food - but everything else no way. The poor think they have it coming to them from the rich guy and this is there way now. It was the same way when the riots were here.
