came in earlier this year. I was told the same when i declared extra cigarettes which i bought for a friend. They let me off same as your friend. However another friend of mine who flew into adelaide 5 days before me was slugged $120 AUD for 2 cartons of cigarettes which were not bought duty free in bali, just from supermarket and was told the same. You cant leave behind and must pay. He was livid when I told him i got thru unscathed... I wont be bringing in extra again. cheers
