Came home 10 days ago and had the same problem with hand luggage. husband and I had a carry on bag each and I had a small briefcase type bag I always travel with as a hand bag,the powers that be at Denpasar check in decided this is not a hand bag, her words were a hand bag is a small bag, my bag is all of 12"x10" and 3" deep, one carry on consigned to the hold, this bag had some fragile things in it, she put stickers all over and it arrived home safe, we did have to sign a fragile waver.
I really feel this is perhaps a good thing as cabin baggage has been becoming a problem, we were unable to find room in an overhead locker a couple of trips ago and the flight attendant took it off somewhere for us........Cheryl
