For the past 14 visits Bali I have always bought back either a sword or a Kris and have had no problems with the swords. Last year I had the Kris confiscated as I was told it was a double edged weapon and was a pronhibeted import, however the swords were okay to bring in. They must be declared, and I emphasise the word must. I have paid around the $50AU for them but they are not the touristy type seen in the shops. Ask around the staff at the hotel or on the beach and you can pick up the genuine Japanese type for this amount. Some shops have the other type like Katanas etc but dont pay any more than $10 - $15 each as they are not the genuine item..Bob
