Hi Guys, so far I haven't had a single problem with Qantas & AA in getting on flights to and from Bali. Last year I took the whole family (9 people) to Bali. I addition 2 years prior I used enough points to take 7 of us there and back. All in all I have had 22 FF tripsto Bali. On all occasions we have had direct flights to and from Melbourne.
How do I do it?
First, I never use the internet for bookings and always phone Qantas direct and do the bookings with a "Real person". Qantas personell have greater access to flights than those they choose to put on the net.
Second, Always plan ahead. In my case this means 11 months before departure date if possible but generally no later than 9 months prior.
For the odd single person you can always keep trying right up to 3 months and later prior to departure as more seats are put up, particularly at off peak times - May/Nov.
Remember there are normally only 9 FF seats on each flight so the earlier you try the better.
When we booked for last years August trip (Booked Oct 03) we were actually offered 9 seats on each of flights out on 30th July, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th Aug with flights back after 29 days there, the choice was ours.
