I flew Qantas to Bali in January to Bali actually and on a 737-400. Qantas 737-400's are actually different variants to Garuda's and have a higher take off weight and are fitted with longer range tanks as they used to be used on the longer SYD-PER and MEL-PER domestic sectors before Qantas's new A330 aircraft arrived.
However you cant fly Qantas to Bali anymore even if you wanted to. Australian Airlines are the new entry of the Qantas group on this route and they fly the longer range 767-300 there from Perth.
Obviously though its only Winter when the GA 737-400's have to scarifice luggage for extra fuel weight.
