Last December/January, we did lots of activities. Our daughter was 7 at the time. We learned to do batik, woodcarving, Balinese dance, painting, music (in a huge studio filled with lots of different Balinese instruments). She did everything. The batik and woodcarving and dance was held right at our hotel, the painting was at a studio in a nearby village (and free of charge!), and the music was about 10 minutes away in the middle of rice fields alongside a river.

Everything was arranged for us by a friend of the owner's of the hotel we stayed at...was very reasonably priced as well as flexible. We really liked batik, so we did it for 3 days...just added onto the original one we had requested, no problem. We stayed at Alam Sari in Keliki, just outside of Ubud (and loved, loved, loved this place). Everything was discussed by e-mail prior to our arrival, and they had a tentative schedule for us set up when we got there. We were very pleased.

We're doing a similar trip this year for Christmas, too. We will do more of the same classes, and add silver jewellery making and Balinese traditional herbal medicine to the list. We found them more than willing to arrange anything we wanted, and made some excellent suggestions as well.
