Goa Gajah (elephant cave) and Yeh Pulu, rock carvings. They are quite close to Ubud. You could do those in a morning.
A also not too far away is Tirta Empul and Gunung Kawi, definately worth a look. On the way is the Pejeng museum. Search the archives for more details on these sites. Or consult A.J. Bernet Kempers book Monumental Bali. ISBN: 0-945971-16-8 It is an introduction to Balinese archaeology and a guide to quite a number of Balinese monuments.
Suggest you take a sarong and sash to save you having to hire one every time you stop to look at these sites.
Last time I was in Bali (January 2005) I was paying 275,000rp to hire a driver for a full day (app. 8 hours)
Hope this has been of help.
Cheers.
