We returned from Bali last Friday and also were charged US$50 for excess. Seems to be a bit of a hit and miss affair as the rest of my group who went home the previous Friday had no problems and nearly all of them were over!!
Also, had our cigarette lighters confiscated - pretty stupid of me really but had them in our hand luggage and lost the lot. So be warned that if you are buying lighters put them into your suitcases!!
