there are plenty of hotels in Bali, and plenty of beaches too - but you are probably better off reading some of the JBR's on here to decide what area you want to stay first. Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak are the busiest places if you want lots of shopping and nightlife, if you want a quieter time then maybe Sanur or even one of the beach areas further north or east. The beaches and sea are generally clean, except in the rainy season (October is OK), but a lot of the beaches are not white sand. Also there are links at the top of the page to hotel/villa sites which will give you an idea of price. You can search on here for reports of individual hotels etc as well.
