most of the Candi Dasa beaches have washed away. However, there is a nice stretch of clean white sand beach between Shangrila and Resor Prima, with close in live coral reef for some low key snorkeling. To get to this very nice little area, you take a right turn just after Legends Cafe at the Amlapura end of the main street. Just a few minutes pleasant walk or 2 minutes by car or motorbike.
I have developed a special liking for this little area and like Resor Prima, a brick and tile traditional style budget hotel. Run down from the front but clean and comfortable inside.
I've stayed at a number of places in Candi Dasa and also like Kubu Bali, built into the side of a mountain side in the middle of CD main street. We had the topmost cottage, amazing views, but it makes the Tjampuhan in Ubud seem like a flatland.
What to do? Local sort-of rock groups at Legends Cafe and Iguana on non-conflicting nights. Versatile and not too loud.
Close to the traditional Bali Aga village of Tenganan. Not far from Padang Bai, with nice beaches at Blue Lagoon and White Sand Beach. In the other direction another very nice White Sand Beach.
A very scenic round trip by car to Amed, up the very undulating coast road past Ujung, then back on the inland road past some amazing rice terraces and Tirtagangga. I recommend driver Wayan Manek [Nick] ph 081 8353501.
Plenty of eating places. I generally eat at inexpensive warungs, Warung Pini near Resor Prima and Warung Puspa near Kubu Bali.
Depends what you are looking for, but last August we were there for 6 days, then 6 days in Lipah [Amed], then 3 more days in CD and didn't have time to get bored.
