a question - last year, i had a really traumatic experience with a driver that i got on the street at the last minute. on a whim, i wanted to go from kuta to uluwatu and dreamland, and the driver who was recommended wasn't immediately available. i got a driver outside of the hotel who went on the whole time raging about how his muslim people were going to bring jihad on america - not so comforting as a single woman alone in his car - and extorted a bunch of money from me before dropping me off. very disturbing.
because of this, and because i'm going this year with three other girls i can split the fee with, we were thinking about having a driver on call for the whole seven days we're in kuta (even at 300,000rp/day, it comes out to about $60 US/person the whole trip, not much for piece of mind). my question - do people do this? and if we're staying on poppies II, can they generally park close enough to come around quickly when we call them? i'd sort of feel guilty about having him sit around all day, but he would be getting paid, and it's a small price for us to pay to know that we'd have a reliable driver if we want to do something on a whim.
thanks!
