before you go to pick up a secondhand phone that does take a Sim card.It is very cheap to get a Bali Sim card & you can get them at heaps of places.Just make sure if you do buy a secondhand phone that it is not locked to a network.
I am not sure if USA is like Australia & you have any prepaid networks that don't lock their phones to their network.We do with Vodafone.If you do have a company like this maybe keep an eye out in the newspaper or catalogues for any special deals.We bought a brand new Vodafone with $30 credit before we left last trip & it only cost $39 Australian.It was simply a matter of putting in a locally bought Sim card once we were in Bali.
