I spent part of my holiday staying at the Bounty and came across a number of people there stung by a scam that I thought i'd better let people know about.
In Poppy's lane 2 near an alleyway there is a woman that will come up to people who look new (no bintang singlet and a money belt is my guess :-)) and usually are alone. She will tie a leather band around your wrist while she is talking to you. She will then lead you down the alley still holding the band where a bunch of other women will follow you. They will sit you down and either braid your hair or spike it with super glue and give you a manicure etc. They then all stand around you and demand 1 million payment. They will follow you to an ATM if you haven't got the cash.
I actually witnessed this being pulled on a young girl who was obviously new and a bit naieve after I had been told about it. I followed them down the lane and asked the girl if she was ok. She was a bit worried so I pretended to be her friend and we walked out. Not before I was abused and hit by the women who sussed onto the fact that I didn't really know her.
I spoke to 3 different people who had this pulled on them. I think the trick is to have your wits about you when walking alone and to never sit down or go to the rear of a shop by yourself if you are not totally comfortable.
I personally had no hassles but they probably pick their marks pretty well.
