I got out of my first [very unsatisfactory for both of us] marriage in early 1978 when I was 43. Although I both felt and looked young, I thought I'd lived a lifetime. In many ways I hadn't even started living.

I launched into what is known as the second teenage. For those who are old enough to remember, it was the disco era. Long hair [for men], fancy clothes, outrageous behaviour.

After about two years I met a very beautiful lady and we had 22 great years together, dancing, parties and working together. I had lived and worked in the North West and Northern Territory and didn't see the point in going anywhere else for holidays, but Kathy persuaded me to try Bali and for that I am eternally grateful.

I sadly lost Kathy 3 years ago and didn't really want to be here at all, but what do you do, you just get on with it.

I met a lovely lady at a dance and have been going out with Emiko for 2 years in September. Some of you have met Emiko and know how nice she is. I am very lucky.

I suppose what I am saying is that chronological age is largely irrelevant. There is so much to do in life. I now think of people in their forties as so young that I wonder what all the fuss is about!
