- average or a bit above for Bali but that does not make them good by Australian or Mediterranean standards. The sand is a nice colour, deep and fine grained, manicured carefully each morning to present a perfect picture. Beyond the low tide mark however the bottom can be rocky and coral strewn. Many of the hotels have a sort of cleared area of bottom marked out with rope and bouys for a bit more safety and comfort. When the tide goes out (once a day) there is not really enough depth of water inside the reef for swimming but its an interesting wade across the flats. Wear a pair of cheap Bali joggers if you try this as some ot the coral is sharp.
