G'day Witchy,
My wife & I met "Alex" our driver on our 2nd or 3rd day in Kuta. From that time on we were taken everywhere by him and insisted on him joining our meals, drinks etc.
It was like having an extra friend on our trip. He would give us infomation on Bali, attend to our every need,(even getting a friend of his that worked at the Kintamani volcano restaurant to sit with my wife to keep her safe while I waited for our food inside!)and had us in stiches all day. We even got pulled over by the Police on the way home & Alex paid the fine & wouldn't tell us how much or allow us to pay....we had to sneak the money into his armrest when he wasn't looking.
We found ourselves missing him when we weren't together & would call him to meet us for drinks & dinner. He would always bring his own $$ & try to pay but it made us feel so good to be able to shout him we always insisted.
By including him we were able to form a much closer friendship which lead to us meeting his family and friends and being invited to a BBQ at his house...a highlight of our trip. 2 cartons of bintang, 8kg of red schnapper and bottle of Arak. Huge night! We had a theme song for our trip..."Where is the love" by the Black Eyed Peas. The words suited our trip to a tee!!
Great to see someone else "found the love" and shared it with a local!! Cheers, Lachlan
