Hi, we just returned from Bali, and we stayed one night at the Sofitel. The renovations seem to be all but finished (the only thing I noticed was that they were working on the driveway) so there was no problems there.
Our room was nice and tastefully decorated, the only downside was that it was quite dark, even with everything open, and smelt a bit damp. But we didn't spend much time in our room anyway so it didn't matter!
The pools were great, however the put-the-towel-on-your-sun-lounge-for-the-day-even-if-you're-not-there people were out in force. As we arrived we heard people complaining to the managers at reception saying that it was out of control, and they had been there a few days and were yet to get some chairs. We didn't have that problem, we happened to chance upon 2 people leaving their chairs as we arrived.
Can't comment on the breakfast, as we walked up the beach to La Lucciolas, a nice 15 min walk. Worth it - the sand is white up here, not brown like out the front of the resort and you get a great view. Gado Gado is also just across the road from the resort - we went there for dinner - fabulous.
Overall, it was a nice place to stay, however i think it was a bit too far from anything for my liking (I usually stay in Legian where everything is on your doorstep). But they do have a hotel taxi that will drop you anywhere (for a fair bit more than the taxis/bemos out the front of the resort). Hope this helps! Any questions, just ask :)
