spent a month going through Java and we absolutely LOVED Yogya and the surrounding area. A very friendly and relaxed area with great locals and there are plenty of travellers around that you can hook up with. We met some fantastic people there and Yogya was definitely one of the highlights of the whole island.
Dont do the organised trips, just hire a driver for a day, we did Borobudur and Prambanan in the one day, along with a stop off at a silver making factory.
