I was in Kuta Matahari when a well dressed young guy got into conversation with me, saying he was a tourist from Singapore. Then he introduced me to his "sister" and her friend. "Where are you from etc?" "Perth". "Oh, our cousin is going there to work as a nurse and she's worried that she may be discriminated against because she's from Singapore. Come and have a coffee with us and tell us what Perth is like. We have a car and driver outside".
I walked outside with them and memorised the vehicle description and rego and then made my excuses. I gave this information to the hotel manager who suggested that I inform the police and arranged transport to take me to the police station. The police officer made out a report and told me that they would have got me into some kind of gambling game and cheated me. I would like to think that this report was followed up, but somehow I doubt it.
As a total non-gambler of any kind, and as a person who does not carry credit/debit cards around with me, or much unnecessary cash, I sometimes wonder what the outcome would have been. [But I don't intend to find out!]
