Whilst in Bali on holiday with a friend nearly 5 years ago my mother died. She had been ill with alzheimers for 13 years so her death was expected at some time. Something stopped me from going to the nursing home before I left to say goodbye and unlike me didn't let the nursing home staff know or tell my brother I would be away.
The night she died I did feel her pass away but didn't know it at the time until my husband rang me less than 15 minutes later.
Being away was hard for my family as they adored their nana but I believe she pushed me away so I wouldn't see that she was deteriating quickly. That it was time for other members of the family to take over some responsibility and knowing just how much I loved Bali that she wanted me to be where I would hopefully feel peace from her passing on from this world. To this day I will remember the beautiful people of Bali especially Wayan from GVC where we stayed who made a special offering to take down to the beach and release it into the ocean at sunset on the first day of her passing away. Our last day in Bali before going home for the funeral was spent with Wayan ( who used to work at Padma Club) her husband Wayan and their son Ketut who took my friend and myself up to their villages to meet their families. When we arrived at her village their was only her family and a couple of kids but by the time we left there must have been around 20 of the kids from all over the village come to suss us out and then to stand at the gate to wave us off. It was absolutely incredible to say the least. This would have to be one of the best ever days I have spent in Bali. Each time I return to Bali Wayan GVC makes me an offering and I wander down to the beach at sunset to release it into the ocean and say hello to my MUM. Although filled with great sorrow and sadness I can honestly say I did feel peace and was really glad to have that special time for myself to say goodbye. Bali has that special kind of magic and at some time we will all feel it for whatever reason.
