Visa when you get there. You need US$25.00 per person. When you are buying that, it might be an idea to get $50.00 Aussie in Rupiah. If you are worried about travelling to Bali for the first time you might feel more at ease if you have a little bit of money on you when you get on the plane. There is enough to worry about when you get off the plane and get accustomed to Denpasar Airport for the first time. It might cost you a little bit more to buy is Australia but you will easily make up the loss with all the bargins you will get once you start shopping.
Jimbaran is nice but a taxi ride away from Kuta. It all depends whether you are going for a relaxing holiday or to get lots of shopping and sight seeing done. We always stay in Kuta and then visit other places from there. There is lots to see within walking distance of Kuta and drivers are everywhere, happy to take you out for day trips for about A$30.00 for a day.
You won't get hasselled by locals in a bad way, although they do call out to you to get you to buy from them first. It is just their way of life and we have always found that as long as we are polite and have a laugh with them, they are wonderful happy people.
Hope you have a great trip. (our 4th is coming up in Sept... Yeahhhhh!!)
