Well we arrived in Bali on the 22nd May. my wife was a bit crook when we arrived but felt better after having a cool drink and a lie down so i ventured to mataharis on my own to do the necessary shopping milk, coffee, shampoo etc which i couldnt believe came to a whopping 12 dollars oz which is a bit cheaper than what you would pay here GOOD START. once my wife felt better we decided to go for a walk in my old bali clothes which made a big difference to how much we got hassled. 1st night was uneventful just spent the night getting our bearings again and remembering last time (our honeymoon).bali has changed a bit since we were there 3 years ago but it is still the same beautiful place it has always been. more westernised but still bali. i havent noticed too many people on here commenting on bubba gumps or papas cafe. if you are like my wife and i we enjoy eating in nice restaraunts at home, and 2 restaraunts that are as good as most in oz are these 2. papas is italian food just like tou will find anywhere in oz but cheap compared to home (a bit expensive by bali prices) but the setting, the staff, the food and the drinks are every bit as good or better than anything oz has to offer. we spent 3 hours there 1 night drinking cocktails and eating and the bill was 450,000 (about 65 oz dollars) where as at marios on the gold coast where we eat a bit the bill would have been about 150 oz dollars. bubba gumps food and prices are similar ( a bit cheaper than papas) but the staff is what makes this place so good. dont get me wrong the food is good too but the staff is what really makes the place. they get right into the theme of the place and make you feel that forrest will walk through the door any minute. the shopping is still unbelievable though thanks to this forum we knew about jennys shop in poppies lane 2 whose prices are excellent with no bartering. the 2nd time we went there it was quite hot so ketut went and got us a couple of drinks then would not take anything for them as we had already been telling people over there to go visit them. if you shop there tell them glenn and kim from oz said to say hello and we will probably see them again soon (hopefully). we also brought 5 paintings in poppies 2 from mamutt who sells them for the artist who we also met when we went to pick them up. they cost us 130 dollars oz for the lot (could have got them a bit cheaper but i was happy to pay that since my wife brought a PRINT NOT A PAINTING for 200 dollars oz here before we left) and as many people on here have said before it is only a few dollars to us and we made their day by not bartering too hard. since we have been home everyone has asked us about the paintings so i think we might be ordering some more paintings from them and they have already checked how much it will cost to mail them out to oz for us. i could keep going for hours but is probably starting to bore some people by now.
