Lots of great advice above.
Don't worry to much about "covering up" - nobody cares. Go sleeveless and cool, it will be hot when you are there. I wore boardshorts and singlet tops during my last trip - I wasn't sure how the boardshorts would be as I haven't worn them before, but they were very cool and comfortable (I can't say I looked a pretty sight, but ah, that's why I love Bali, I can dress how I want!).
A sarong over bathers is great too.
The bikeshorts sound great if you are planning on lots of walking, but if not, just keep in mind that they might make you hot.
Keep cool - well airconditioned places like McDonald's are a great place to stop and cool off when walking around.
Don't forget, if you are walking around and getting hot and uncomfortable, stop and catch a taxi to wherever you are going - even if it's just down the road. The taxi's are so cheap, and even a short trip is better to the driver than nothing at all(if I do a really short trip I often give the driver a little bit extra). A few dollars and/or a dent in your pride is not worth suffering later on.
Finally, as someone else mentioned before, depending on your size of course, be prepared for the Baliness who "say it like it is". I never take offensive, but have been told "sorry, you're too big" when looking around the markets. I usually respond with something like "Yeah, I'm a big momma" and we all have a laugh. I truly don't think they mean to hurt your feelings (oh, except perhaps the one smart-alec who, when I said no thanks to his watches, told me "well, you've got a big bum anyway"!! - you've gotta love 'em !!).
Have a great trip.
