When I first heard of Bali Rally, back in 2001, I heard it was coming our way, and I was excited. But only one vehicle arrived at Pacung for lunch, with few wierdo's who called themselves Andretti, Navigator and the Mechanic. I gathered then that it was just a way to drink a Binny or three at as many different locations as possible.
This year, the crew have been talked into letting others join them on their adventures; Moi & I have invited ourselves along; it seemed like a fun way to tour parts of the island we haven't seen yet. We are even taking our Manager (Wayan) along for the ride, as he needs a holiday.
I believe there are around ten vehicles involved this year, and they even have a Police escort organised, just to save on traffic infringements I guess, and I have heard that a TV crew (TVRI) may even participate so that a Doco can be produced.
But it's not just drinking and hell raising; most of the participants are active in some way in aiding different projects in Bali, AdoptA widows, some schools and some orphanages will be visited or aided, so you can call it "Fun Fund Raising"
If you don't catch the Rally on the road, you can catch up with the crew at Bali Cyber Cafe at the start or end of the Rally, at the "Grand opening of Crackers Bar & Grill" at Candi Kuning, or at Pacung Indah on the final night. That'll be a night to remember, as we have arranged a traditional Party night, with Gamelan band and Joged dancers providing entertainment.
If you ask nicely, Andretti might even let you participate, the only rule to be aware of is that Andretti MUST cross the finish line first, he sort of hogs the lime light.
Cheers,
David & Moira
