Been to most of the popular South Pacific Islands ... Fiji, Samoa etc etc. whilst I haven't been to Lombok I do know Bali. The South Pacific is pretty - I thought Samoa the prettiest but the South Pacific is limited in comparison to what Bali has to offer - it's lacks the shopping, great restaurants and night life but mostly it lacks a dynamic and fascinating culture. Bali's culture is SO colourful and compelling. So if you just want a beach/surfing/resort holiday the the Sth Pacific will meet your needs - but if you want something more then Lombok/Bali is the place for you. I am returning to Bali again for the 5th time in a few weeks, but I was content to say I've seen the South Pacific and leave it at that. And if this helps you at all I am not someone who just goes to Bali - I have seen a lot of the world so have other benchmarks to stack destinations up against - and Bali is the place I want to go back to again and again.
