I agree with other comments made. Bali does offer so much more in regards to restaurants, shopping, activities etc. I can only offer opinions from my experiences having been to both islands and I found Balinese honest. I had a shop trader follow me out the shop with forgotten change. The money is very hard to work out and they always helped with counting and a calculator ready.
In fiji I had 3 experiences that will always stick in my mind. One was a guy finished breakfast and when he realised his sunnies were left on the table, he went straight back. We'd seen the waiter pocket them as soon as he'd left the table. Then we'd left clothing on a pool chair. Went back later, gone. Next day we forgot the kid's pool bag with bathers etc at lunch. Called the restaurant straight away and they said no worries, we'll put it away. Next morning, bathers were there and no bag! This was all in a 5 star resort. I can understand they are poor but you would expect better.
Anyway good luck with your plans. You will enjoy either as any holiday is a bonus.
