I would be surprised if your hosts showed anything more than mild surprise if your driver stayed with you overnight and if they do it's probably surprise that your driver wants to stay with you in western style accommodation rather than surprise about any thoughts of impropriety. As far as I know the days of reporting you to the government or collecting your passport belong to another era and perhaps another country.
I'm perhaps more surprised that your driver does not prefer to go home for the night and return the next day or prefer to find his own local lodgings with other drivers whom he might call friends (if only for the night) and with whom he can converse freely and easily.
I'm surprised also that your driver has agreed to go snorkelling with you - or do you hope that he will? The Balinese see the mountains as the seats of the gods and the sea as the fearfull domain of the demons, not to be entered into lightly.
I'll certainly look forward with great interest to your JBR to find out the results of your unusual adventure.
Have a great holiday.
