Anyway, as far as Downer is concerned, the ultimate scenario will be that she is found guilty and sentenced to death, but not killed after Australian Government intervention. And then we'll all forget about her. How many people do you think even know who Barlowe and Chambers are? I know that no-one cautioned me before I visited Malaysia or Thailand about possibly being set up and killed. But a few people at Melbourne airport were trying to sell me security wrapping on my way to Indonesia. And I got a lot of questions when I returned.
The Australian Government does not want us to go to Indonesia at all. They want us to spend our money at home, and they don't want us finding out that they've been lying to us for years about Indonesians. They don't seem to mind so much about people going to Bali, but if you tell customs you also went to Java, they suddenly spark up and ask a bunch of questions. The main one is "Why did you go there?" This will be asked at least five times in a variety of ways. Apparently enjoying being there is not a valid answer.
