I have 5 frangi's in pots. The trick is to keep them in the hottest sunniest place you can find - usually where nothing else in your garden/balcony would survive. Against a north westerly facing brick wall is perfect as the bricks heat up and create a little furnace atmosphere. They wont flower unless they have strong direct light. Don't over water (once a fornight) and dont fertilise too much.
In winter I assume if you could bring them inside and have them in a sunny window position they would be happier than in the cold of winter. They will loose their leaves and look dead but they will survive.
My cat regularly digs up the frangi's and I just put the soil back and they survive. If the dog breaks off a branch just let it (the branch) dry out and plant it and it should strike and you'll have another frangi. They are quite hard to kill but don't really like being re-potted once they are established.
Good luck!
