I was advised by this forum to keep some aussie gold coins for this purpose. The porters readily accepted $2. And when you think about it, if they did this 100 times per day, that is pretty good money by anyones standard. Also don't let them say they want more. It is just a ploy, fair is fair. I also kept aside 1000 rp notes and gave a few at a time to waiters, porters etc. when required. They all appeared happy with that.
