I am a bit of an expert with sea lice seeing as it doesn't seem to matter which ocean, which country or where I swim, they still manage to track me down! It is true that it is all about them becoming trapped in your bathers so don't, as someone suggested, wear tight things if you can help it. However, to prevent getting stung at all apply water resistant sun block preferably one of the ones with insect repellent (though without still works pretty well) to all the bits of your body that will be trapped behind fabric. Also,if you do get stung, applying vinegar should remove the sting quite quickly.
Sea lice are often more active when there is a bit of motion in the sea. So, if things are a bit churned up and visibility is poor there is a good chance that they'll be there ready and waiting.
