I have stayed at both and like both. I prefer the location of Ramayana though and it remains my favourite Hotel. I always try and have part of my stay on the beach and part at Ramayana. In fact I generally move around to a number of Hotels and areas. Other Hotels to consider would be the Kumala Pantai and the new one next door (name escapes me at present) on Legian Beach. All of these are much cheaper than the Kartika but very nice.
