I stayed in the Green Garden Hotel just down from the Waterbom Park in August 2003. This was my first time in Bali on my own, as I had lost my wife 15 months previously and I was feeling very fragile. As a man on his own, I was approached by prostitutes on motorbikes a number of times down the road from there, but never on, or close to the Green Garden premises. The first time it happened I didn't know what she was selling. I must have been very naive.
There is another Green Garden across the road from the Pantai Restaurant and Bali Hai, which I believe is very popular for spa treatments. Both are under the management of Paulus, a very pleasant and caring young guy who lives at the Green Garden in Jl Kartika Plaza with his wife and child. I know you can't always judge people, but I would be amazed if Paulus would allow blatant prostitution on his premises.
Whilst there I met a couple of guys from the Rockingham Bowling Club and we recognised one another. [I'm not a bowler, I'm a dancer.] They've been going there for years and I think that's typical of the Green Garden patronage.
