Don't do it in Australia - exchange rate isn't good here.
And don't worry - there are no hassles whatsoever to exchange money in Bali if you know what to do.
Exchange rates are better in Kuta. Always try to exchange in Kodak shops, as they have good exchange rates and won't rip you off. But make sure you always count the money yourself. Don't risk small private money changers who may advertise better rates. They may well find the way to fool you and rip you off.
