We always get a ground floor room in Y block as my husband can't climb stairs. First couple of times til we worked things out we were closer to beach, where the club noise was supposed to have been heard, but I didn't hear any.
As a fairly fussy baby boomer, who has travelled quite a lot I will give you my opinion (and advise, if you want it!!)
Main points in favour; Gorgeous pool and gardens. Set on old site so very well established gardens despite Hotel age (just 2 years)No swim up bar but does have poolside bar. with reasonably cheap drinks and nibbles. Small Hotel, never too far to walk to beach, pool restaurant.
Location. Guess that is a matter of choice, but we love it. You can walk to Kuta or Seminyak. Heaps of great food within walking distance. We usually walk out and then taxi back. Eat Street in Seminyak is only 10,000rp taxi ride away.
Rooms are not huge, but good size. We took child on 1 trip and there was room for her bed with no worries. Cable TV, heaps of channels, tiled floors, the ground floor verandahs in Y block are over the lily/koi ponds so are enclosed by a low wall, whereas some of the other blocks the verandahs are open to the gardens (which the path to beach/restaurant passes through, so not very private for that reason). Upstairs obviously are enclosed verandahs. We have never heard noise in the rooms (although I wear earplugs) Worse problem we have is being on ground floor you get people walking around in hobnailed boots or shifting furniture 3 am when they get home from clubbing. You get that anywhere in a block type hotel with tiled floors.
Clean sheets every morning, marble bathroom with separate shower and bath. Great water pressure, although takes a while for hot to come through. Will fill up shower recess very quickly, and it floods the floor. I took to showering in the bath as I didn't have to rush so much!! Bathroom starting to show slight signs of aging. Bad (or good, depending on your slant)lighting in bathroom and bedroom for makeup applying etc. Effective air cond, usually kept if fairly much on full, except for on cooler nights when we turned it down a tad. No hairdriers, safe in room (thinking as I type!!) Good breakfasts, not as good as some, but better than others. No danishes but do have croissants. Changes every day with indo and western choices. Staff OK, not the friendliest but I feel perhaps a little understaffed, could take the pressure off reception a bit.
Drinks in mini bar and room service cheap and nice. Nice restaurant "nearly" on beach, just pathway in between.
All in all, especially for the money, I think you would be pushing to find anything in that standard of hotel any better.
I'll be happy to answer any specific questions.
