Bali is between the Indian Ocean and the Java Sea. So if you go there and find yourself wandering the South Pacific, I'd suggest a snorkel and flippers, and maybe some water wings, coz it's going to be a long swim.
Also, Bali is not a country. It is one island in the country of Indonesia. That may sound pedantic, but in your original post you said you had to cancel a trip to Thailand because of the tsunamis, even though only Phuket and nearby areas were affected. You could have still gone to Bangkok, Chang Mai, Hua Hin, or a thousand other places within Thailand that were unaffected. The irony is that people have been posting here for the last week, worried about going to Bali because it is part of Indonesia, where the damage from the tsunami is far worse than it was in Thailand. The damage, however, is thousands of kilometers away.
In answer to the question of what to take... I take less every time I go because I get sick of lugging crap aound the country. If I run out of shirts, a new one is a couple of bucks. I have taken one light jumper every time, and never used it. On my last trip I gave it away. But if you're staying in Bali in the same hotel for the whole trip, it's not really an issue, coz you have somewhere to dump it. Bali is small, and you can take day trips to anywhere on the island. If you're climbing any mountains, bring one set of warm clothes, otherwise pack light and use the cheap laundry services. Make sure you leave plenty of room for your duty free grog.
