Bali, Lombok and the Gilis are all very cheap. Of course, people will try to rip you off, just like they do in Thailand, but you just need to bargain and be aware of how much things should cost. I've been to Thailand too and would say that Bali and the Gilis (I haven't stayed on Lombok, but it is the same)are definitely just as cheap, if not more so. You can find a decent meal from a warung, for example nasi goreng, soto ayam (chicken soup) or satay for 5000 rupiah. If you want to eat at a restaurant, prices are still very reasonable (e.g. main dishes 15,000 - 20,000 rupiah). Of course, in the tourist areas, you can easily pay more than this, but you don't have to - look around. Seafood in the Gilis is particularly cheap and very fresh. Accommodation there too is inexpensive, but mostly basic. Enjoy yourself! x
